Question: How can I determine my housing needs before I begin the search?

Your home should fit the way you live and the way you want to live. Many homebuyers are looking to expand their home to fit their growing needs or needs for the future, such as an expanding family. Here are some things to look at to help determine your housing needs.

• Location. Should the house be close to certain schools, your job or public transportation?
• Size. How large should the house be? How many bedrooms and baths do you need? What size lot do you prefer: larger or smaller yard?
• Amenities. What details, finishes and appliances are you looking for?

The best way to examine your needs is to establish a set of minimum requirements and a wish list. minimum requirements are things that a house must have for you to consider it, while a wish list covers things that you’d like to have but aren’t essential. Below is a great example of some things you could be looking for in a home. Use it as a starting point to create your own requirements and wish list.
